On the Mend (sorry no pics, sick Heather is no photographer)

Whew, I think I just might be getting better, keep our fingers crossed. I have been sick pretty much since the beginning of the year, first a sore throat, next a runny nose, now congestion and major sinus pressure, the kind of pressure that makes me feel like my eye might explode out of my head and like I have migraine most of the day. However if I popped enough meds I got relief from my pain, while feeling like a horrible mom nursing my baby on meds.

Over the past week I have felt like a crazy person, rythmic rocking to displace the pressure, holding in the demons that wanted to punch, hit, throw or kick something, because I was so sick of being sick, and sick of my kids feeling sick too. Becoming not only a spectator, but a fan of "Kick Buttowski, Suburban Daredevil."

Oh and let's just throw in the bad mom ideal that my child watched an unprecedented amount of TV because I couldn't cope with much else. He'll still turn out ok, right?

But thank goodness for the saints in my life.

My lovey husband helped so much it is wacky. Especially considering he started nursing school this week and had to work too. He doesn't like for me to brag so I won't go into details.

My loving mother-in-law, Valarie, who tended to the kids, picked up all our messes, made meals and thoughtfully prayed for my recovery...

And my amazing friends and family who prayed for me, and contacted me, and brought me delicious soup and especially to Carrie who reccomended using a Netti Pot to Valarie while she was visiting teaching, ah the power of prayer and visit teaching.

That Netti Pot was interesting but I went from crazy head yesterday morning to nearly back to normal tonight, seriously nuts-o. If you are interested in it just you tube it, the thought of describing what it does almost makes me gag, I couldn't watch the you tube videos cuz I would have puked but it does work great to clear out congestion.

Oh and not to forget, little Kacen even pitched in where he could. He cleaned up on his own, threw less tantrums and even tried to anoint my head with Mentholatum while I was sleeping the other day. Two days ago when the pain was at it's peak and I just had to sit on the ground rocking myself. He stood next to me stroking my hair and then forced his way into my arms making kitty purring noises. He is a sweetie pie. We still have fits and tantrums like always, but it is nice to see a large amount of helpfulness and happiness too.

So it is good to be back, I did three loads of laundry cleaned mine and Kacen's room, made cookies, warmed up dinner and packed Ky's lunch all today, that is way more than I have done in a week combined.

In other news Kacen has taken to noticing his sister. This is both good and bad, yesterday he started a game of peek-a-boo all on his own, he squatted down to her play chair and hid behind a toy then popped out and she laughed. Sometimes when Andie is crying he will bring her a toy without being asked, and he found her binky (the one she never uses except as a toy and usually ends up on the floor near the dog) and decided that it really needed to be in her mouth. It is so fun to watch him interact with her, he is not pushy at all, you can tell he really wants something from her like for her to play cars a certain way, or to put the binky in her mouth but when she doesn't behave correctly he adapts. So that is all good but....he also has pushed her really hard twice now, (not enough to make her cry but definitely he was trying to be mean). He was but quick to say sorry and love her better. I really love this little guy and I am so grateful that I have been trying harder to see all of his wonderful attributes, he has so many, he isn't just a ball of energy out to be a crazy head.

Wishing you all good health!

  1. I am sorry you are sick. I need to be in the know about these things! I can take Kacen for you. And the neti pot is a life saver, especially during pollen season. Even if you don't have one, you can use a cup and warm salt water per Dr. Oz. I always gave the kids baby saline solution when they were little - the kind you spray up their nose. Such a relief when they get colds too. Get better!

  2. Yuck. I've been sick too and it's no fun at all. Woo-hoo for saline to help with congestion! Feel better soon!
